Our products are designed to reduce environmental pollution. This endeavor begins with the manufacturing process. Whenever economically feasible, we use the latest ecologically oriented technology and recyclable materials for our product production. The responsible and economical use of resources ensures an economical and environmentally friendly production process.
Our current technology and market leadership is based, among other things, on 100 years of experience in the manufacture of industrial ceramics. A milestone in the company’s history is the production of catalytic and non-catalytic honeycomb ceramics, which began in 1985. As the first manufacturer of SCR catalysts outside of Japan, this technology has been successfully expanded over the decades and further product technologies have been added.

To safeguard our know-how and the high demand for tools and wrought materials, we operate our own metal processing workshop. The primary function is to provide an efficient, flexible means of meeting customer needs. Our competitiveness is supported by our state-of-the-art machinery, which allows us to process of conventional steels and alloys.
We conduct research with the aim of improving our products and processes both ecologically and technically. Our products, which are used in numerous environmental applications, represent a sustainable benefit for our environment and society. The focus here is not only on the further development of our products, but also on expanding their area of application and providing effective solutions for current and future environmental problems. With this in mind, our team at the Future Technology Center works both independently and in cooperation with renowned universities and institutions.
In our Pilot-Plant & Prototyping department, prototypes and samples are produced, which are characterized chemically and physically (mechanical and thermal tests) in our laboratory. Before introducing new processes and products, we assess their environmental impact over their entire life cycle. We consider the current situation and estimate future effects. The findings are transferred to production via our material and process development department.
CERAM catalysts are manufactured to the highest quality standards. Our laboratory not only monitors product quality but is also fully equipped to evaluate the performance of used catalysts – regardless of the original manufacturer. The CERAM laboratory carries out more than 2500 catalyst activity tests annually. By participating in industry round robin tests (e.g., VGB and EPRI), our laboratory has repeatedly maintained its leading position and takes particular care to ensure unbiased measurements are taken. In addition to catalyst performance metrics, which include the NOx reduction activity, CO oxidation activity and the SO2/SO3 conversion rate, the laboratory measures numerous other parameters such as: chemical compositions (bulk and surface), specific surfaces, compressive strength, pore size distribution.
This data makes it possible to better assess the performance of new and used catalysts, and thus provides a reliable basis for catalyst lifecycle forecasts.
Every owner of an SCR system is faced with the task of operating the system as cost-efficiently and effectively as possible. The most accurate operation assessment can only be found through a holistic approach that involves not only the catalyst, but the entire SCR system.
The engineers at Ceram Austria GmbH can call upon 170 years’ worth of experience and expertise to support you. This includes inspections of reactors, recording the mechanical condition or the extent of pluggage; the optimization of the NH3 injection; analysis and interpretation of operating data; in-depth investigations of catalysts, including lifespan forecasts and strategies to extend the product life-cycle.
In our highly specialized laboratory, we carry out catalyst tests regardless of the design and manufacturer.
